Xubuntu 14.04 and removing desktop icons for partitions.

I had to install Xubuntu 14.04 on a rather old Lenovo Notebook for a friend of mine. Xubuntu, because of its lightweight Desktop management which rendered the notebook usable again.
In order to prevent possible damages to the windows partitions on the hard drive, I wanted to remove the Desktop icons representing these partitions. Apparently, this cannot be done in the Settings, because you  remove all of the partition & harddrive icons, which is not a solution because it renders e.g. USB sticks not accessible for GUI users.

Instead, google found: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1753634
- Thanks and kudos to the authors! So as reminder to myself:
create a mountpoint and add an entry in /etc/fstab for all partitions in question after a reboot. This removes the icons for these partitions.
I additionally set the options ro (read-only), noauto (no automatic mounting) and nouser (only root can mount them) because they are precious windows ntfs partitions.
